General Purpose

As a Data Engineer II, you will play a critical role in creating data solutions that support Ross’s reporting and analytical needs. As a key member of the Data Engineering team, you will work with diverse technologies like Streamsets, dbt, and data operations to build insightful, scalable, and robust data pipelines for our analytics platforms.

Base Salary

The base salary range for this position is $96,000 – $182,000, depending on experience, skills, qualifications, education, certifications, seniority, and location. This range is just one part of our total compensation package, which varies by position and location.

  • Design and model data engineering pipelines that support reporting and analytics.
  • Engineer efficient, scalable data pipelines to move data into our Cloud Lakehouse.
  • Analyze business requirements and translate them into well-architected solutions for a modern BI and analytics platform.
  • Contribute to data modernization projects, providing direction on design and technical matters.
  • Develop and implement performance optimization strategies.
  • Proactively identify, escalate, and resolve issues.
  • Collaborate with Data Technology and Business Information teams to create optimized data flows for visualization.

Qualifications and Special Skills Required

  • At least 7 years of experience in data engineering, including data pipelines, data operations, scripting, and SQL queries.
  • 5+ years of proven data modeling experience, particularly in data warehousing and modern analytics.
  • 2-3 years of experience in modern data architecture supporting advanced analytics (Snowflake, Azure preferred).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business Analytics, or Business Management.
  • Expertise in engineering data pipelines using various technologies (ETL/ELT, big data tools like Hive, Spark).
  • Hands-on experience with data warehouse design, development, and best practices for modern architectures.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language (Java or Python).
  • Experience with data modeling and preparation tools.
  • Familiarity with data lineage and catalog tools.
  • Strong analytical skills in SQL, Python scripts, and ETL/ELT transformations.
  • Experience in data orchestration tools (e.g., Ctrl-M, Apache Airflow) and DevOps/Data Ops practices.
  • Knowledge of reporting tools (MicroStrategy, Power BI) is a plus.
  • Self-driven with the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Experience in an Agile environment and familiarity with the retail domain are preferred.
  • Experience with Streamsets and dbt is a plus.
  • Strong communication skills, capable of explaining complex concepts in simple terms and providing excellent customer service.
