Data Engineer – United States – Remote – Planned Systems International

We are seeking a talented data professional to collaborate with stakeholders, DevSecOps, and data scientists to execute our analytics roadmap. This role involves understanding the business domain, documenting requirements for data pipelines, and enabling descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive analytics.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business needs and document requirements for data pipelines.
  • Analyze and explore large data systems and sources, performing complex data manipulations such as federated joins, imputation, and deduplication.
  • Utilize SQL, Python, and PySpark to analyze, clean, transform, and persist data from databases as well as structured, unstructured, and semi-structured data.
  • Write and optimize SQL and SparkSQL queries for databases and Data Lakes.
  • Productionize data pipelines, incorporating monitoring and operational metrics capabilities.
  • Create visualizations and dashboards using Tableau.
  • Develop and execute unit, integration, and regression tests for data pipeline jobs.
  • Create ERD diagrams and validate designs with prototype data models.
  • Collaborate with the data science team to iteratively develop optimized data models for machine learning.
  • Innovate through experimentation with new technologies and present data-driven solutions to stakeholders, including executive management.

Minimum Requirements:

  • U.S. Citizenship with the ability to obtain a U.S. Government Security Clearance.
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of SQL.
  • 3-5 years of experience with at least one major relational database (e.g., Oracle, Postgres, MySQL).
  • Hands-on experience with Python, particularly with Pandas or PySpark DataFrame APIs for data manipulation.
  • Familiarity with structured, unstructured, and semi-structured data in various formats (text, CSV, JSON).
  • Experience implementing various data engineering patterns.
  • Proficiency with at least one major BI tool (Tableau, QlikView, Power BI).
  • Experience writing unit, integration, and regression tests.
  • Understanding of the machine learning lifecycle.
  • Experience with a major notebook environment (Jupyter, Colab, Databricks).
  • Strong communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with a positive attitude.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Databricks Unified Analytics Platform for data engineering.
  • Familiarity with DBT (Data Build Tool).
  • Experience with AWS DMS (Data Migration Service).
  • Proficiency in Spark and Spark SQL, especially with structured DataFrame API.
  • Familiarity with AWS cloud services and big data technologies (Sagemaker, Athena, EMR, Glue, S3).
  • Experience with machine learning using Python and/or Spark libraries.
  • Knowledge of big data file formats like Parquet and Delta.
  • Experience creating DeltaLake or DataLake for large, complex data sets.
