Data Engineer – United States – Remote
Data is essential to Wealthfront’s success. We leverage data to help our clients make informed financial decisions and drive business growth. As a Data Engineer at Wealthfront, you will be instrumental in building and maintaining our core datasets, ensuring that we have reliable, high-quality data for decision-making across the company.
Role Overview:
As a Data Engineer at Wealthfront, you will collaborate with various stakeholders across teams like Engineering, Product, Data Science, Marketing, Finance, and more. You’ll help define and curate the data they need, model business entities, and create robust, scalable data pipelines. You’ll also play a key role in ensuring the quality and integrity of our data, supporting efforts to automate and streamline data processes across the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate across teams: Work closely with data scientists, analysts, product managers, and business stakeholders to design and deliver the datasets needed for analysis and decision-making.
- Data modeling: Model business data layers (both normalized and denormalized) that expose data in terms of key business entities.
- Build scalable pipelines: Design, build, and deploy reliable data pipelines (using SQL, Python, and other tools) to move and transform data for business use cases.
- Ensure data quality: Maintain a strong focus on data quality, ensuring that completeness, consistency, and timeliness are prioritized. Use quantitative approaches to monitor and improve data quality.
- Data catalog management: Help maintain a comprehensive data catalog to document the business entities and their attributes, making it easier for others to understand and use the data.
- Reporting and dashboarding: Manage reporting tools like Tableau or AWS Quicksight, helping teams transform raw data into meaningful insights.
- Metrics definition and maintenance: Help define company-wide metrics and implement automated data quality checks to ensure reliable reporting.
- Build data access layers: Create a modern, efficient data access layer on top of platforms like Presto, Athena, S3, and Redshift to make data easily accessible for all stakeholders.
- Become a subject matter expert: Deeply understand Wealthfront’s data domains, such as client financials, clickstream, and product usage, and provide expertise across the organization.
- Agile team contributions: Work within an agile team of Data Engineers, prioritizing high-impact projects and delivering timely, high-quality solutions.
Qualifications & Experience:
- 4-6 years of experience designing and building data solutions in a data-driven, consumer-facing software environment.
- Advanced SQL skills for working with MPP relational databases.
- Proficiency in one or more high-level programming languages like Python, Java, or Scala.
- Experience with big data processing using distributed frameworks such as Spark or Hadoop.
- Familiarity with analytic reporting tools such as AWS Quicksight or Tableau.
- Exposure to product and marketing data tools like Amplitude, Iterable, or Braze is a plus.
- Strong communication skills with a collaborative, detail-oriented mindset.
- A BS or MS in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or a related field.
Compensation & Benefits:
- Salary: $170,000 – $185,000 USD, plus equity and a discretionary bonus.
