Role Overview

As a vital member of our team, you’ll lead the design and development of a robust data architecture that underpins data modeling, integration, processing, and delivery standards, enabling the development of modern data products at Scribd.

In your role as a data and analytics solution architect, you’ll spearhead initiatives in data warehousing, pipeline development, integrations, and modeling. Your expertise will shape Scribd’s data strategy, guiding stakeholders in effectively consuming and leveraging data.

We seek someone with extensive experience in architecting, designing, and developing both batch and real-time streaming infrastructures. You’ll establish standards for data modeling, integration, processing, and delivery, translating business needs into technical specifications.

At Scribd, we harness deep data insights to drive our business decisions—from product development and experimentation to subscriber engagement and key performance indicators. You’ll join a data engineering team facing complex challenges across our three brands—Scribd, Everand, and Slideshare—serving over 200 million monthly visitors and 2 million paying subscribers. Your contributions will significantly impact our core data layer as we invest in its enhancement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop data architecture for modeling, integration, processing, and delivery.
  • Lead architecture initiatives related to data warehousing and pipeline development.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Data Science, Analytics, Engineering, and Business teams to create cohesive data models and consumption strategies.
  • Focus on enhancing internal customer satisfaction through improved data solutions.

Required Skills

  • 7+ years of experience in data strategy, architecture, modeling, solution design, or data engineering.
  • Hands-on experience with data lake technologies (e.g., Databricks, Snowflake), data formats (Parquet, Avro), and query engines (Athena, Presto).
  • Strong understanding of distributed systems, RESTful APIs, and data consumption patterns.
  • Proficient in data modeling, ETL processes, and analytics frameworks (real-time and batch).
  • Skilled in SQL and experienced in Scala or Python.

Desired Skills

  • Familiarity with streaming platforms, especially Kafka.
  • Solid understanding of AWS data services and their capabilities.
  • Experience implementing data pipelines for analytics and machine learning.
  • Proficient in asynchronous communication tools (e.g., Jira, Slack).
  • Knowledge of automation and CI/CD tools (e.g., Git, Docker, Jenkins).
  • Experience developing data quality and governance standards.
  • Familiarity with BI tools (e.g., Qlik, Looker, Tableau).

Compensation and Benefits

At Scribd, your base salary is just one aspect of your total compensation, which is based on local labor benchmarks. In California, expected salaries range from $191,500 to $282,000. Outside California, the range is $158,000 to $268,000. In Canada, it’s between $198,500 CAD and $267,000 CAD. We also offer equity ownership and a comprehensive benefits package.
